Abbott losing support among male voters as well as women

Prime Minister Tony Abbott's "woman problem" has reportedly become androgynous, as male voters also abandon the Coalition in droves.

Recent Newspolls show the 20-point lead the Coalition held among male voters at last year's election has all but dried up, The Australian has reported.

Mr Abbott remains tied with Labor leader Bill Shorten as preferred prime minister among men.

Women have long been perceived as Mr Abbott's weak spot, and female voters have traditionally been less than enthusiastic in their support for him.

Now it appears men are following suit, with male support for Labor and the Greens also rising.

The polls were conducted between October and December this year.
