Mother and child among five injured after multi-car crash on Melton Highway
A mother and her child were among four people taken to hospital after collision involving numerous vehicles in Melbourne’s west this afternoon.
Police said a black car was travelling west along the Melton Highway at Leakes Road and Mount Cotteril Road, Plumpton, when it collided head-on with another vehicle just before 1pm.
The impact caused the car to veer onto the other side of the road and hit a third vehicle.
“It is believed the (black) car was seen driving erratically in the area prior to the incident,” police said in a statement.
Four people were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, including a mother and child who were transported to Sunshine Hospital. The pair have since been released.
Another woman, aged in her 20s, and two remain in hospital in a stable condition.
A total of five people were assessed by emergency services at the scene.
Investigations into the cause of the collision are now underway.
