DoorDash driver slashed in attempted carjacking after dropping off order

A DoorDash driver has been slashed in the hand during an attempted carjacking in Melton, on the outskirts of Melbourne.

The man had dropped off food to Jess and her daughter Cadence Hart and was sitting in his Honda when four people approached the car.

"I was terrified. Terrified. Cause as they walk across here they actually waving the machetes," witness Jan Patten said.

"They were yelling and they were banging," Cadence Hart said.

"I almost started crying. I felt horrible that I couldn't even go out there to help cause if I did I would have been hurt as well."

The 23-year-old victim ran after the group and was slashed on the hand, which left a trail of blood on the footpath.

"Very brave for him to do nowadays. It would have been very scary," Hart said.

The driver sought help from a nearby resident who drove him to a medical clinic.

The victim was then transported to Sunshine Hospital but has since been discharged. Nine

"He was cut on his hand pretty bad and it was just dripping, he couldn't control it," resident Jason Burgess said.

Staff at Melton Medical Centre said the victim rushed in screaming for help.

They cleaned up his injured hand before he ran to a police station 200 metres down the road.

The victim was then transported to Sunshine Hospital but has since been discharged.

Meanwhile, the four offenders remain on the run.

"It's horrible knowing that anybody could get hurt. If you're just trying to do your job, you can be afraid you're going to get hurt. It's actually horrible," Hart said.
