Desperate search resumes for Melbourne woman after boyfriend’s body found in Canadian wilderness

Canadian search and rescue teams have continued to scour the remote and treacherous, Statlu Lake area in search of missing Australian hiker Sophie Dowsley.

Grave fears are held for the 34-year-old from Melbourne after divers found her Canadian boyfriend Greg Tiffin's body in the lake, located about three hours' drive east of Vancouver.

Authorities have said they will keep searching for Ms Dowsley.

The terrain is so rugged searchers, which include divers, dogs and specialists from Kent Harrison Search and Rescue, had to be flown in to the sites.

"You never give up hope,” Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesman Corporal Mike Rail said.

"It's really remote and demanding territory.

"It is gorgeous but not forgiving.”

Ms Dowsley and Mr Tiffin set out for their day hike in the Mt Statlu Lake region on July 8.

Four days later concerned family and friends alerted authorities.

Ms Dowsley had been living in Canada for about three years.

Her family members immediately flew to Canada when they were alerted she was missing to help with the search.

"It's the worst possible nightmare that you could imagine," Ms Dowsley's father, Peter, told Canada's CTV News

"I couldn't dream of anything worse."
