Melbourne cleans up after fierce storm moves through city

A fierce storm that swept through Victoria yesterday led to flash flooding and hundreds calling for help.

More than 14 millimetres of rainfall hit the city between 4pm and 5pm, with water left flowing down streets in the Docklands and South Melbourne.

Tullamarine Airport, west of the CBD, received the most rainfall in Victoria the afternoon, with nearly 20 millimetres falling.

Close to 300 calls were made to the SES across the state, with about 118 trees felled and 16 reports of floods.

Thankfully conditions in the city settled just after 6pm.

Images shared to Twitter showed the CBD skyline cloaked in dark clouds as showers began rolling in.

Another showery day is forecast for today, with up to 15 millimetres to fall in the CBD.

Despite the anticipated deluge, the mercury will climb to a mild top of 21 degrees.

But the city will feel the chill, with the mercury checking out with a wintry top of 15 degrees until Saturday.
