Melbourne Victory win record fourth A-League grand final

Melbourne Victory has won its fourth A-League grand final in a spiteful game at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle in front of just over 29,000 people. 

The visitors scored a controversial goal in the first half through Kosta Barbarouses, which was headed back by James Donachie, who appeared to be in an offside position.

The video review system checked the goal, but it was allowed to stand, adding more controversy to the VAR which has been a talking point throughout the season. 

The Jets had a host of great chances, but couldn’t find a way past Victory keeper, Lawrence Thomas. 

The disappointment for Newcastle was compounded late in the second half when striker Roy O’Donovan was shown a straight red card for kicking Thomas in the head. 

Victory has now won more championships than any other club in A-League history.
