Melbourne teenager pleads guilty to terror-related charge in Children's Court

A Melbourne teenager arrested during a raid on his home has pleaded guilty to one terror-related charge.

The 17-year-old was due to face the Children's Court today, but admitted to one charge ahead of the hearing and prosecutors dropped two others.

He pleaded guilty to engaging in an act in preparation for, or planning, a terrorist act between April 25 and May 8.

The teenager looked down and quietly said "guilty" when he was asked how he wanted to plead.

A prosecutor said he would front a directions hearing at the County Court at a later date.

The matter was expected to be heard at the Supreme Court after prosecutors won a bid to "uplift" the case from the Children's Court.

"The Supreme Court has indicated it ought be heard in the County Court," the prosecutor said.

"This all happened fairly recently."

He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody to appear in the Melbourne County Court on Thursday.
