Marathon swimmer Chloe McCardel has set a new record for the number of English Channel swims by an Australian, after completing her 20th journey.
McCardel, 31, took about 10 hours to complete the swim after setting out yesterday morning (about 1.00pm AEDT).
Her support crew included her husband Paul McQueeney, and documented parts of the endeavour on Facebook.
The crew described the cold and choppy conditions as being “a little like a washing machine”.
The previous record of 19 swims was set in 1980.
McCardel also holds the world record for the longest unassisted ocean swim from South Eluethera Island to Nassau in the Bahamas, covering 124km.
