Mother shelters in kitchen after shots fired at man walking dog in Melbourne's north-west

A woman has been forced to shelter in her pantry after a stray bullet hit her kitchen as a volley of gunfire rang out in Melbourne's north-west. 

The shots were fired by two men wearing balaclavas from a blue Audi S3 at a man walking his rottweiler in Fraser Rise Reserve dog park on Monticiano Road about 6.40pm yesterday.

More than 20 shots were fired at the 32-year-old but he escaped uninjured by running to his home about 200 metres away.

A stray bullet penetrated the roof of a nearby home, narrowly missing a 64-year-old woman by just centimetres as she was preparing dinner.

Police were searching for bullets in the residential street and at a playground today.

The shooters are still on the run.

The offenders then fled the scene in the blue Audi, which was located burnt out on Viridian Drive in Hillside a short time later.

A red Holden Commodore, which police believe was likely involved in the crime was also located burnt out on Parsley Street in Caroline Springs.

Police are treating the shooting as a targeted attack.

A search of the surrounding area is also being conducted today with local police.
