Victorian Police are hunting a Seymour man who escaped from a prison in central Victoria last night.

Dennis Wallace, 38, allegedly escaped about 6.45pm from the Dhurringile Prison, a minimum-security facility about 160 km north of Melbourne.

Mr Wallace was convicted of drug trafficking on December 6 this year and sentenced to 12 months in prison.

Police have released a photo of Wallace in the hope someone recognises him and provides information on his whereabouts.

He was last seen wearing a green shorts and shirt.

It is believed he may have travelled to the Seymour area.

The public are urged not to approach Mr Wallace but to contact triple zero.
