Protesters react to 'Nazi salute' rally

A protest has been held in Melbourne’s CBD in response to last week’s rally where groups were seen holding a Nazi salute.

Hundreds rallied on the steps of the State Library to call out the use of Nazi salutes and symbolism at last week’s demonstration against gang violence.

Queensland Senator Fraser Anning copped heavy criticism last week after billing taxpayers to attend last Saturday's extremist rally that was hosted by convicted criminals Blair Cottrell and Neil Erikson, and where attendees were photographed giving Nazi salutes.

Today’s crowd stopped traffic as they chanted and waved signs through the surrounding streets.

“I’m tired of my little cousins walking around like they are different, like they don’t belong in this country that they were born in because of the colour of their skin,” Titan, an activist, said to the rally.

Greens leader Samantha Ratnam was among the crowd and supported them taking a stand.

“That’s racism and it has no place here in Australia,” she said.
