Melbourne mum's tough year takes a turn with $9.1 million Keno win

A Melbourne mum's difficult year has taken an "insane" turn after she received an early Christmas surprise - winning a $9.1 million Keno prize.

And now she wants to use it to help friends and family, who have done it tough.

"We've had a few hard Christmases. No one's having a hard Christmas this year. I'm going to be their angel this Christmas," the lucky winner said.

The woman from Reservoir in Melbourne's northern suburbs managed to hold a Keno Mega Millions spot, winning the jackpot prize of $6,815,227 when it was drawn on November 27, using her favorite numbers.

"When I play Keno, I always play the same special numbers. They're my children's birthdates, my puppy's birthday and numbers like that," she said.

"I always feel lucky around Christmas, and last Friday was four weeks until Christmas."

The woman was beside her herself after being told about her win. She said she thought she was going to have a heart attack when the good news came through.

"All of a sudden, it happened. I checked my ticket. I was outside just sitting up looking at the sky."

The lucky winner said with the money she is going to fulfill her wish of buying a home but wants to also buy her children houses too.

"There's so many people I'm going to help. I'll buy my children a house each and help some friends who've been doing it tough."

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased her Keno Mega Millions ticket on the Keno app.

And as well as winning the main jackpot in the 544 draw she also won the 7, 8, and 9 spot jackpots with her playing the same number sets across entire jackpot product suites – resulting in her $9.1 million total win.

"This could not have happened at a better time for my family," she said.
