Three men who were charged for allegedly robbing a string of hair salons across Melbourne in the early hours of yesterday morning will front court today over the crimes.

Mount Waverly salon owner Sean Nevo, who lives at the back of his business, was assaulted in the ruckus caused after he woke to find the trio allegedly smashing into his Essez Road shop around 4.45am.

In the scuffle, Mr Nevo told 9NEWS one of the men attempted to hit him before the 42-year-old business owner chased the group back to their car with a metal stand and smashed the rear of their white Mitsubishi ASX station wagon.

"I quickly ran downstairs and I was confronted by one of the guys, one of the crooks," he said.

"They tried to reverse at me, I moved over and to the passenger side and smashed the side...and then they just drove off."

Security footage shows the entire incident unfold as the three men escape with hair straighteners believed to be worth more than $1200.

Police also confirmed they believe the same men stormed two more hair salons in Rowville and Upper Ferntree Gully before they were arrested by investigators.

A 24-year-old Endeavour Hills man was charged with burglary, theft and assault-related offences.

A 28-year-old Dandenong man and a 38-year-old Narre Warren North man were both charged with burglary and theft-related offences.

All three men will appear at Frankston Magistrates’ Court today.
