Melbourne drive-by shooting blamed on love triangle

A love triangle is believed to be at the heart of a drive-by shooting in Melbourne's south-west overnight that saw the victim narrowly escape injury after his car was sprayed with shotgun pellets.

Craig Stephenson, 41, was sitting in his father's Holden Commodore in Deborah Street, Werribee, just before 8pm when he was shot at by a man in a passing car.

Neighbours told 9NEWS Mr Stephenson walked across the road with a weapon in his hand, believed to be a knife, after the attack.

Police said they are investigating the shooting, however Mr Stephenson has not been cooperative with their inquiries.

He did, however, post an angry message on Facebook, vowing revenge on his attacker.

"Learn to shoot u dumb f---s, I'll teach u, f---ing low life scum, can't even him me with a sawn off at three metres, f---ing pathetic," he wrote.

Neighbour Sharni Baker was inside her home when she heard a loud bang. The next minute, Mr Stephenson was on her front porch.

"I'm like 'okay, come inside and have a chat'," she said.

It is not the first time Mr Stephenson has been targeted. Locals told 9NEWS they suspect a love triangle involving Kylie Dunn, a woman in the street, could be to blame for the attack.

The shooter's car was last seen speeding along Deborah Street.

It is the second drive-by shooting in the Melbourne area in as many days.
