Father bashed unconscious while daughters hid in bathroom during Melbourne home invasion

A father has suffered a fractured skull and was knocked unconscious while trying to protect his family during a violent Melbourne home invasion this weekend.

Dandenong North couple Pero and Radmila, who did not want to provide their surnames, were watching television on Sunday around 10pm when the masked intruders stormed their Victor Avenue home.

The offenders bashed 46-year-old Pero on the head with a baseball bat until he was knocked unconscious. He laid bloodied on the ground while the crooks smashed his wife on the hand.

The 44-year-old had her finger broken, but continued to fight as she shielded her 16-year-old daughter. Her 14-year-old and nine-year-old girls hid in the bathroom.

"(I thought) maybe they’re going to kill us," Radmila told 9NEWS.

"They are just criminals that deserve a really bad punishment."

"It was a very scary thing to witness," daughter Sandy, 16, said.

"I just remember screaming and just seeing my parents getting attacked."

After drifting in and out of consciousness, Pero managed to grab a nearby candle holder and spooked the offenders. They fled empty-handed.

Police said they're looking for at least three males and a female, who are described as African in appearance.

It's believed the same offenders were seen loitering on Brady Road after the invasion. Detectives believe the same group may have attempted another home invasion earlier in the night.
