A young driver has been allegedly clocked travelling 207km/h while three times over the legal alcohol limit on a busy Melbourne highway.
The 22-year-old Carlsruhe man was pulled over by police on the Calder Highway around 9.20pm yesterday after allegedly going 97km/h over the 110km/h speed limit.
Police said when they conducted a breath test on the driver of the white Holden ute, it returned a reading of 0.138.
The man had his vehicle immediately impounded for 30 days and his licence was suspended.
He is also responsible for the $1475 cost of having his vehicle impounded.
Police said he will be charged on summons with a number of traffic and driving offences.
It comes as police cracked down on dangerous driving over the Melbourne Cup Carnival weekend.
Operation Furlong focussed on the safety of all road users over the long weekend period, targeting drink and drug driving, speed, distraction, fatigue and seatbelt use.
