A man has been arrested after an alleged shooting outside a shopping centre in Melbourne.

Police were called to Broadmeadows Central on Pascoe Vale Road about 3.45pm yesterday following reports a man was shot by a stranger.

The 22-year-old man from Meadow Heights was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

A 31-year-old man from Glenroy was arrested today.

He is now in custody and is being interviewed by police.

Police will allege the men were known to each other and the incident was targeted.

Officers earlier executed a search warrant at a property on Bindi Street in Glenroy but no arrests were made.
