Melbourne father beaten with steering lock in car park robbery

A Princes Hill father’s holiday plans were shattered after thieves repeatedly beat him with a steering wheel lock before stealing his passport, plane tickets and luggage in an unprovoked attack in Melbourne’s inner city.

Two thugs beat the 52-year-old over the head with a steering wheel lock after ambushing him as he sat in the driver’s seat of his Ford Falcon parked in a Carlton car park early this morning.

The thieves made off with the man’s wallet, ring, passport and plane tickets and a small amount of luggage.

Police said the victim had been planning on going on a cruise with son in the near future.

While those holiday plans are now on hold following the savage attack, police said the victim was in good spirits.

Detectives are reviewing security footage from the Carlton area but are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the attack to come forward.
