Measles alert in NSW with two travellers infected

Two Sydneysiders have been diagnosed with measles after returning from travelling in India, prompting the NSW health department to issue a warning.

NSW Health says the first case was reported in Sydney's inner-city suburb of Pyrmont, while the second case was an infectious traveller who arrived in Sydney on QF82 from Singapore on April 18.

Both cases were young adults.

"Measles is highly infectious and contagious for people who are not fully immunised," said NSW Health's Director of the Communicable Diseases Branch, Dr Vicky Sheppeard.

She is urging travellers to check their measles vaccination status before going overseas.
