Gold Coast couple narrowly escape house blaze

A Gold Coast couple has lost almost all of their worldly possessions, including tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of work equipment, after a huge blaze gutted their home.

The Mudgeeraba home was completely destroyed after fire broke out in the garage and quickly exploded paint cans and chemicals.

Fire crews battled the fire, with the help of several neighbours, but the house was gutted in a matter of minutes.

Five people were at home when the fire broke out, including tenants Dan Brewster and Kaela Chenery.

The couple managed to get their pets out alive but have lost everything, including Mr Brewster’s paint supplies and $20,000 worth of Ms Chenery’s gym equipment.

“The whole house gone in five minutes,” Mr Brewster said.

Fire investigators and police are still probing the cause of the fire.
