Police are hunting three masked thieves who smashed their way into a number of small businesses in the northern suburbs of Adelaide.

The destruction has left workers to clean up the mess in what would normally be their busiest period of trade.

At 2am two hooded thieves were captured on surveillance footage attempting to kick down the door of a small barbershop.

As they struggled, a third accomplice emerged with a trolley and the determined thieves managed to force their way through.

They darted to the cash register, making off with hundreds of dollars and clippers worth over $1000.

Three other small businesses have also been targeted, robbing them not only of valuables but also of crucial trading hours as they were left to clean up the mess.

"The cost of living is getting harder and harder, and this just doesn't help," said  Luke Chritensen, who had his butcher shop targeted.

Police are continuing their investigations.
