A popular radio announcer is in hospital after being attacked and robbed while sleeping in her home in Gippsland, Victoria, this morning.

Beverly Lorraine, 83, was meant to be on-air hosting her weekly program on Gippsland FM this, but is now instead hospital suffering upper-body injuries.

Police say the masked offender broke into Ms Lorraine’s home on Princes Drive, Morwell, through an open door about 6.30am.

He assaulted the octagenarian before demanding cash.

The victim told the offender the location of her handbag, before she ran to neighbour Mel Gordois’ house and called police.

“She said he’d been bashing her, punching her…telling her he was going to rape and kill her, wanting to know where her money was,” Ms Gordois told 9NEWS.

“She was pretty shaken up, you could already see the bruising coming out on her face.”

Ms Lorraine is in a stable condition in hospital, as police continue to hunt her attacker.

“We’ve been doing a pretty decent canvas of the area…neighbours, witnesses and CCTV will give us an idea as to who the guy is,” Senior Constable Chris Bortignon from Morwell Police said.

Investigations are ongoing.
