Beloved grandfather's body found in South Australian floodwaters

The body of a well-respected South Australian local who went missing in floodwaters has been found.

Police were told Robert Westbrook, 78, went missing while yabby fishing near his Loxton North property just after 1.30pm on Monday.

The dry land farmer's capsized boat was spotted by a neighbour, prompting a rigorous search.

Emergency services searched until last light and restarted their search this morning.

Police divers retrieved Westbrook's body in flood plains near the river just before 8.30am on Tuesday.

"Adjacent to where he was found was an upturned dinghy along with his vehicle parked nearby as well, so look, a really tragic set of circumstances," Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott said.

"We don't know exactly what's happened at this point in time."

Officers said there are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

Locals have remembered the beloved husband and grandfather after he was pulled from the water that he loved.

"A likeable bloke and someone who really enjoyed life in the community and enjoyed being with people," former mayor and friend Leon Stasinowsky said.

"He's very well known within the community, the family have been here for generations as well.

"A great person and a great family so it certainly saddens me but certainly a great shock to the community that this has happened."
