Melbourne school locked down after group fleeing police enters its grounds

A school in Melbourne's south-west was temporarily thrust into lockdown this morning after a group of alleged offenders fled onto the grounds from a stolen car.

Police responded to reports of a Porsche being driven erratically near Fraser Rise about 10.50am.

The car was followed to Manor Lakes before it was dumped on the grounds of Manor Lakes P-12 College on Minindee Road.

Five people jumped out of the car and ran into the school, police said.

Witnesses at the scene claim at least one of the people had a sharp-edged weapon.

The school was placed into lockdown as a precaution for about an hour, but has since been cleared of any danger.

"When it all went down I saw one of the police members, they jumped and tackled the guy to the ground," a student told 9News.

"It was out at recess just chilling then we got an announcement over the whole school saying that there was a lockdown and it was not a drill.

"There was a lot of fear going around."

Three offenders have been located and taken into custody.

Two offenders remain on the run.

A Department of Education spokesperson confirmed "school safety procedures" were implemented at the school this morning.

"All students and staff are safe, no one was injured and the normal school day resumed," the spokesperson said.
