Hazard burn fire 'under control' after breaking containment

A hazard reduction burn that jumped containment lines in northern Sydney is under control.

The scheduled burn operation, conducted by National Parks and Wildlife along with Fire and Rescue NSW, broke through at about 2pm at North Head, Manly.

The fire is not threatening any homes and a Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson told nine.com.au they did not expect it to.

However, police earlier helped evacuate people from nearby commercial and residential properties.

No homes are under threat. 9News

Anybody living in the area is advised to remain in their homes and shut their windows until alerted to do otherwise.

Firefighters took advantage of the light rain in the area to backburn further, and the blaze is not expected to pose any further danger.
