Vegemite poses the ultimate taste test for Australian visitors, repulsing some and delighting others.

But Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany offered up undoubtedly the strangest response ever when offered a taste of the Aussie staple.

Kompany was given a jar of Vegemite during an interview with Channel Nine's Clint Stanaway and ahead of the Sky Blues' International Champions Cup clash with Italian giants AS Roma.

And after taking one look at the dark spread asked: "Do I rub it on my skin?"

Stanaway was quick to tell the City defender it was a toast spread and after sampling a small amount on his pinky finger, Kompany gave it the thumbs up.

"It's nice," he said. "It's passed the test.

"It's hot as well."

Kompany was then offered a Tim Tam, which he enjoyed, before being asked to show off his Australian accent.

"Well G'day shiela," he replied, before adding: "Is that what you say? I don't know."

Not bad Vincent. We'd give that a thumbs up.
