Man with measles caught Brisbane train

Brisbane train commuters have been told to be wary of measles symptoms after a man infected with the virus caught public transport.

The Metro-North Public Health Unit confirmed the man caught an 8.30am train from Enoggera Station to Roma Street on Monday and a train running in the opposite direction at 1.30pm on Tuesday.

"Metro-North Hospital and Health Service encourages people who were in those areas at the same time as the person to be aware of measles symptoms," the unit's Dr James Smith said.

Symptoms of the highly contagious disease include fever, lethargy, runny nose, moist cough and sore and red eyes, followed by a blotchy, red rash days later.

"Anyone who develops measles-like symptoms within the next week or two should stay home and contact their GP for advice," he said.

Last week a case of measles was diagnosed in a female backpacker who had stayed at hostels in Cairns and Townsville.
