A motivational speaker has inspired thousands by describing how he “broke bread” with his ex-wife and her new husband, encouraging others to “choose to create peace”.

In a post to his personal Facebook page on August 7, US-based motivational speaker Sean Whalen explained his relationship with his former partner was transformed by the decision to “live peacefully”.

“Five years ago (my ex-wife) and I had to have a police escort just to pick up and drop off our kids,” Mr Whalen wrote.

“We only communicated through lawyers. I wanted to punch her boyfriend (now her husband).

“Tonight they invited me over for dinner… Tonight we broke bread, laughed, played with the kids and had a great evening.

“Never give up friends. Peace is a choice. It's your choice. Not their choice… What your ex does is irrelevant."

Mr Whalen concluded by emphasising the need to “choose to create peace by living peacefully.”

The post is accompanied by a photo of his ex-wife, her husband, “our three kids and their two kids”.

It has since received hundreds of thousands of reactions as well as tens of thousands of shares and comments.

Mr Sean has since responded to his audience by thanking them for “reaching out”, and for “living every day with purpose, trying to make themselves better”.
