‘He’s alive’: TV news crew stunned after body being wrapped for the morgue starts moving

A TV news reporter in Ebola-ravaged Liberia has captured the shocking moment a body being wrapped for the morgue started moving.

Dr Richard Besser, who reports for Good Morning America, was in the national capital of Monrovia where a 37-year-old man was found presumably dead on the street after days of illness.

As Dr Besser’s team filmed, a burial crew arrived and began spraying the pavement around the body with bleach and wrapping him up to take him to the morgue.

However, as they began laying him into a body bag, the man moved his arm, shocking both the medical team and Dr Besser.

The watching crowd burst into wild cheers, which soon turned to anger as the ambulance crew put the man back on the pavement and prepared to leave.

People blocked the road, demanding the ambulance take the man to the hospital with them.

They eventually-loaded the still-feeble man into the back of the ambulance and drove away.

A community leader told Dr Besser that they had repeatedly asked for medical attention before the man became severely ill, but it never arrived.

However, once he was reported dead, an ambulance arrived within an hour.

Hospital space in Monrovia is at a premium for the living, as the city battles the deadliest Ebola outbreak in history.

It was not known if the man at the centre of this incident was an Ebola victim or suffering from a different illness.
