Man suffers broken leg in Gold Coast ramming

A man has been charged after he allegedly drove into a group of people on the Gold Coast, causing one of them to suffer a broken leg.

The group was standing near their cars at the Spit at Main Beach when the man allegedly drove up to them about 7.15pm and an argument started.

The man then allegedly drove towards the group and hit one of their cars, trapping a man between two vehicles. The trapped man suffered a broken leg.

Another man injured his ankle while jumping to safety.

The driver then left the scene, and police were called.

Officers later sighted his car allegedly speeding on The Esplanade at Surfers Paradise, and then driving on to light rail tracks on Surfers Paradise Boulevard.

He then allegedly drove on the Gold Coast Highway towards Southport, and police found his car a short time later in Palmer Drive at Labrador.

A 32-year-old Labrador man was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and failing to remain at the scene of a crash and assist an injured person.

He will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.
