Man stranded on cliff face overnight rescued in Queensland
A stranded hiker forced to spend the night on Mount Barney, in south-east Queensland, in freezing temperatures has been airlifted to safety by rescue crews.
The man, confirmed to be in his 50s, had been hiking the mountain yesterday afternoon when he became lost and trapped on a cliff face.
Wearing just a t-shirt and pants, he was forced to wait until rescuers could reach him at first light this morning.

It took SES crews 3.5 hours to reach the man by air at first light this morning. Nine
Bill Gaudry from the SES said the man was likely trapped in freezing temperatures, worsened by harsh winds.
"I wouldn't be surprised if it got down to two or three (degrees) up there," Gaudry said.
"Just a cold, light breeze- that really brought the temperature down."
It took rescue crews three and a half hours to reach the man by helicopter this morning.

Unable to get to him by foot, crews in a Rescue 500 helicopter winched the man off the mountain.
"He was happy to see us and he tried to come towards us and we said no way, it would have given way underneath him," Graham Stumer from SES said.

Just hours later, another hiker was rescued from the Glass House Mountains. Nine
The man was not suffering any obvious injuries but was airlifted to Beaudesert Hospital for check-ups before being discharged this morning.
A few hours later, emergency crews were called to another accident on the Glass House Mountains, just north of Brisbane.

The hiker had fallen from Mount Beerwah and was also airlifted to hospital.
Experts saying those setting out on remote hikes should always be prepared.
"Personal locating beacon is a good idea, a first aid kit et cetera," Stumer said.
