A man is in hospital after an alleged stabbing in inner Sydney overnight.

Police were called to a unit in Pitt Street, Waterloo, at about 1am, where they found a 43-year-old man with a stab wound to his hand.

He was allegedly injured after an argument with a resident of the building.

He was taken to Sydney Hospital in a stable condition.

A 36-year-old man was arrested at about 2.30am and charged with reckless wounding.

He was refused bail and will appear in court today.
