Heartbroken mother details son's 'life-altering' gunshot injuries as police release CCTV in fresh appeal

A heartbroken mother has joined police to call for public assistance about an attack on her son, a father-of-three, who has been left with a bullet stuck in his head after a shooting in Melbourne a fortnight ago.

Dandenong man Jesse remains in the Alfred Hospital with a bullet lodged in his head, after he was allegedly shot at a park in Armata Crescent, Frankston North about 7.15pm on Monday, November 4.

Police believe the shooting was connected to an aggravated home invasion in Raymond Avenue, Frankston just before 6pm that same day, where five males allegedly smashed their way into a home and confronted a female who was home alone at the time.

Four males and one female have been charged over the aggravated home invasion.

Police allege Jesse arranged to meet with the group in the Armata Crescent park after the Raymond Avenue incident, where an altercation unfolded and he was shot in the head.

Eight people have been charged over the shooting and one person has been released pending further inquiries.

Police have now released CCTV footage and images of an additional man they believe can assist with their investigation.

He is described as Caucasian in appearance, likely between 18 and 25 years old, with a lean build, light brown hair, and a distinctive tattoo visible on the outside of his lower right leg.

It is believed the same man was involved in the home invasion earlier that day and may have changed clothing in between the two incidents.

Police are asking the public to review two pieces of CCTV footage, one of which shows one of the alleged offenders disposing of a baseball bat near the park after the incident.

"The outcome of this incident has been devastating for a young family – a 36-year-old man remains in hospital with life-altering injuries," Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Dave Shannon said.

"Investigators are very keen to speak to anyone with knowledge of this incident – particularly anyone who recognises the man in the images."

Jesse's mother Michelle said the shooting has left her son with "minimal use of the left side of his body".

"They can't remove the bullet from his head at the moment [and] he still has another operation to go," she told media.

"He has fractures in his face that need to be repaired.

"It's going to be a long road for Jesse."

She pleaded for those with information about the incident to come forward.

"I just can't explain how I'm feeling," she said.

"We are suffering and we just need you to just come forward and just help us.

"Please just come forward, that's all I ask as a mother and as a grandmother."

She described her son as a "family man", whose three children were "really struggling" with the situation.

"He loves his family. He's good to his partner," Michelle said.

"He's good to his family and he will help anybody that needs help."

"He would give them his last five dollars."
