Man, 46, fighting for life after police shooting at home north of Brisbane

A 46-year-old man is in critical condition after he was shot by police in Queensland.

The shooting took place on Keith Street in Caboolture South, north of Brisbane, about 10.40am.

Detective Inspector Joe Zitny said police, including tactical officers, attended the home as "a result of a wanted person inquiry".

"An altercation took place between a male occupant and the police," he told reporters.

"This resulted in a police firearm being presented and discharged."

The man was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in critical condition and is likely to undergo surgery.

Zitny said the Ethical Standards Command had engaged with the Crime and Corruption Commission to investigate the incident.

The five officers who attended the address are currently being questioned by police, he said.

"It's not a good situation at all," Zitny said.

"It's a very unpleasant circumstance to be in."
