A female police officer was forced to shoot a man after he launched her partner through a glass window east of Brisbane last night.

Officers were called to the address at Denison Court in Capalaba at around 7.25pm last night in relation to a domestic disturbance, the Courier Mail reports.

The female officer reportedly shot the man twice in the stomach after her Taser failed to subdue him and he charged at her.

The shot man was taken to Princess Alexandra hospital in a serious condition, while the male officer who went through the window sustained severe lacerations and remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition after undergoing surgery.

Residents told the newspaper the housing complex where the incident occurred had been the scene of many disturbances and it is understood a similar shooting occurred 18 months ago.

Last night the Queensland police union president hailed the "heroic" actions of the female officer for saving her partner.

"The police made an instant decision and the police officer protected her partner and was forced to use her firearm because she was in fear for his life," president Ian Leavers said.

Detectives and officers from ethical standards are investigating the incident.
