Sydney man refused bail after pleading his innocence over dating app theft

A Sydney man accused of robbing another man after threatening him with a crowbar at a meeting arranged through an online dating app has been refused bail despite making an impassioned plea in court.

Andrew Rhodes-Lightfoot, 27, pleaded his innocence while appearing via audiovisual link in Parramatta Bail Court today after he was arrested with a woman in Liverpool on Friday.

While his bail status was discussed, Mr Rhodes-Lightfoot interjected, saying he had "pleaded guilty to every single one" of his previous charges because he was guilty.

"But this time I want to take it to trial because I'm not guilty," he said.

Mr Rhodes-Lightfoot was arrested with girlfriend Syndan Leah Marini, 21, after they allegedly lured a man to a Liverpool unit block for a pre-arranged meeting made through dating app Plenty of Fish.

Police say the victim met Ms Marini, who led him into the unit block where he was confronted by Ms Rhodes-Lightfoot, armed with the crowbar.

The pair allegedly robbed the man of his Samsung Galaxy mobile phone, leaving him unharmed.

In court, Mr Rhodes-Lightfoot begged for bail to prepare his case and to care for his mentally-ill mother, just released from Liverpool Hospital.

"I'm the only person in her life at the moment," Mr Rhodes-Lightfoot told the court.

"I've done jail, I've done plenty of it, I don't need another reality check."

Despite his plea, he was refused bail until his next court appearance at Campbelltown on November 9.

Miss Marini, who was granted bail, is also due to appear at Campbelltown on November 9.
