Man potentially followed before serious stabbing in Melbourne's CBD

A man has been left seriously injured after he was stabbed in Melbourne's CBD in the early hours of the morning.

Police believe the man, who is aged in his 20s, may have been followed by two men before he was attacked on Lonsdale Street near Queen Street about 12.30am.

A number of people who were near the incident at the time gave the man first aid until paramedics arrived.

He suffered serious upper body injuries and was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.

The two men who police believe may have been involved in the incident were seen walking away from the scene in an easterly direction down Lonsdale Street.
