Man on the run after stabbing woman during foiled robbery

A man is on the run after stabbing a woman during an attempted robbery in Melbourne’s south-east overnight.

Police said the woman was approached by the man on Inkerman Street, near Market Street, about 2.20am.

The offender made demands for cash, then stabbed the victim multiple times, police said.

“The way she was screaming…it was very bad,” witness Andrew Bayliss told 9NEWS.

“It woke me up, and it continued for another 15 minutes,” another local man said.

He fled the scene empty handed towards Barkley Street, and remains on the run.

The woman was taken to the Alfred Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigations are ongoing.
