Teenager charged over fatal Gold Coast shooting said gun 'accidentally discharged'

An alleged teenage bikie associate charged over the shooting death of a Gold Coast father claims the whole incident was a tragic accident.

Taylor Ruatara, 18, faced Southport Magistrates Court today charged with murdering Jason Boyd, 41, who was shot dead at his Carrara home yesterday morning.

The teenager's lawyer Michael Gatenby said Ruatara claims he found the gun at the property while attending a party, and that he didn't realise it was real.

"He advised police that the gun has accidentally discharged," Mr Gatenby said.

"His version is that it belonged to the deceased."

Ruatara was remanded in custody, and Mr Gatenby says he will apply for bail in the Supreme Court.

He's also scheduled to re-appear in court on February 21 for a committal hearing mention.

A 31-year-old woman is still being sought by police over the shooting.

It's alleged she was also at the party when Mr Boyd was shot, and went on the run with Ruatara yesterday before he handed himself in.

The woman is described as Caucasian in appearance, around 172cm tall with a proportionate build, blue eyes and a tattoo on her neck.

Police remained at the scene of the shooting at Carrara today gathering evidence.

Mr Boyd also allegedly had links to a bikie gang, however, his family have denied those reports.
