Man killed after hitting emu with his motorbike

A NSW man has been killed after he was thrown from his motorbike after colliding with an emu.

The 69-year-old Frenchs Forest man was travelling on a dirt road at Mount Hope, north of Griffith, about midday yesterday when he hit the wild emu.

A 55-year-old friend of the dead man said he was travelling not far behind and saw the victim get thrown about 30m upon impact.

Paramedics were called to the scene but the man's condition deteriorated and he died a short time later at Lake Carfelligo District Hospital.

A report is being prepared for the Coroner.

The wild emu died at the scene.
