Man jailed over death of Queensland grandmother

A man has been jailed for killing a Queensland grandmother as she trained for a half marathon.

Ratan Singh Sandip was today sentenced to three years in jail after he lost control of his car on November 27, 2018, in Mt Warren Park, south of Brisbane.

It hit and killed Beth Eden as she jogged along the footpath near her home.

Her heartbroken family were in court today for the sentence.

"Mum was an absolutely incredible person, she was incredibly inspiring, she helped so many people, she was so selfless with her time," her daughter Rebekah Eden said.

Sandip told police a variety of reasons as to why he lost control that day, including that he was stressed and that he was looking for his wallet, but it was later revealed he didn't even realise initially that he had hit someone.

He was arrested last year at the airport with a one-way ticket to India.

He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death and was today sentenced to three years' jail, suspended after 10 months.

Today, he apologised but it was little consolation for Mrs Eden's family.

"You can't apologise 12 months after the accident at the last minute at a sentencing hearing," daughter Laura Eden said.

"(That) was the first time we've heard that apology and expect us to believe it's genuine in any way."
