A former Hells Angel bikie whose brother was beaten to death in a brawl at Sydney Airport has had his nose bitten off.

Peter Zervas sustained the injury in an attack in Sydney's inner-west yesterday.

The 38-year-old was assaulted at a unit complex in Leichhardt about 5pm on Tuesday (AEST), and has since undergone surgery to reattach his nose.

Police say the male offender bit part of Zervas's nose off, before running from the Norton St complex.

Detectives want to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time.

The attack comes as the man convicted of murdering Zervas's younger brother, Comanchero boss Mick Hawi, prepares for his release on bail after winning his appeal against the sentence. He has been ordered to face a new trial.

Anthony Zervas was bludgeoned to death with a bollard on March 22, 2009 during an infamous brawl between the Comancheros and Hells Angels at Sydney Airport.

Police have refused to name the hospital where Zervas was awaiting for reattachment surgery.
