A man has suffered chest and stomach injuries after he was gored by a deer in the Royal National Park, south of Sydney.

The 57-year-old man was trying to scare away several stags near his home at Bulgo Beach in Otford yesterday afternoon when one charged at him, piercing his chest and abdomen with its antler.

The man was airlifted to St George Hospital with a collapsed lung and internal injuries.

He is in a stable condition following surgery.
