A Melbourne man has made a lucky escape after having his fingers caught in a donut making machine.

The Metropolitan Fire Brigade responded to the call for help in Cooper Street, Somerton, just after 10.30pm on Monday night.

It's believed he was working at That's Allotta Donuts when the mishap occurred.

On arrival, they found the man with two of his fingers trapped inside the machine.

Crews were able to free the man's hand after 15 minutes and he was later treated at hospital.

It's not clear how his fingers became stuck.

WorkSafe Victoria is now investigating.
