Man filmed giving quokka vodka

A young Perth man is facing serious charges after he was filmed giving vodka to a quokka on Rottnest Island off WA.

The video shows the man pouring vodka out of a UDL can as his friends laugh and watch it drink.

The clip was filmed on Saturday afternoon by the man’s girlfriend, an aspiring Perth model, who then posted it on Snapchat, Nine News Perth reports.

Suzanne Perry, from the Rottnest Island Authority, said feeding a quokka alcohol could kill it.

“This behaviour is very cruel to quokkas obviously. The quokka could be very sick right now and may even potentially die as a result of their actions,” she said.

“Their two minutes of what they would refer to as fun is extremely stupid.”

Rottnest rangers are reviewing the footage to find those responsible. Anyone found to be interfering with wildlife could be fined up to $10,000. If charged with animal cruelty the penalty is $50,000.

Last year two French backpackers were fined $8000 for setting a quokka on fire.

In a separate incident, an 18-year-old man was fined $2500 for kicking a quokka, which flew two metres into the air.
