Man granted bail after $4 million found in car on Queensland highway

A Brisbane man has been granted bail after officers conducting a routine license check allegedly found $4.35 million in cash in his car.

Police said Simon Andrew Cross, 37, was driving along the Pacific Motorway at Eight Mile Plains on Tuesday morning when he was pulled over.

A search of his car revealed $1.75 million in cash inside a suitcase and $2.61 million in a cardboard box, the Brisbane Magistrates Court heard

Police said an investigation to determine the "origin" of the money was ongoing but they had charged the father-of-two with one count of receiving tainted property.

The charge carries a maximum of seven years jail.

Mr Cross's defence lawyer said the "sales and marketing worker" had no criminal history and had cooperated with police.

Police opposed his bail because of the amount of cash, but he was allowed to walk on a number of conditions.

Mr Cross must report to police twice a week, must surrender his passport, and not go within 100 metres of any international departure point
