Man drags injured shark out of water with bare hands to help it

Two brave US men pulled an injured hammerhead shark out of the water by its tail risking a nasty bite to save its life.

Brothers Logan and Marcus Lakos were sunning themselves on a beautiful day at Destin, Florida, when they were swept up in the dramatic rescue effort, local TV station WJHG reports.

Mr Logan, who enjoys fishing, sensed something wasn’t right in the water and suddenly he noticed a distressed big fish in the shallow waves where he was standing.

He says his instincts and adrenaline kicked in, overtaking any fear and he waded in and grabbed what turned out to be a hammerhead shark.

"I started pulling it in and it was kind of scary, but hammerhead sharks aren't really that dangerous to humans," Mr Logan said.

A large crowd of curious spectators gathered around and began filming, with some terrified kids yelling: “Let it go, let it go!”

Undeterred, Mr Logan pulled a hook from the shark’s mouth and then pushed it back into deeper waters, to a raucous ovation from the crowd watching.
