A 56-year-old man has died in a jet ski crash on the Barron River in Cairns.

The man, along with a 60-year-old woman, had been riding a jet ski about 10.30am when they hit some mangroves near the Stratford Boat Ramp.

The two riders, who are both from Brinsmead in Cairns, were thrown off the jetski and into the water.
