Man dies at Rio mine in Pilbara region

A 32-year-old man has died on a Rio Tinto mine site in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

The mine worker, from Landsdale in Perth's north, was fatally injured at Rio's Channar mine site near Paraburdoo on Sunday night.

"An employee working at Rio Tinto's Channar mine site passed away last night following an incident on site," Rio Tinto said in a statement on Monday.

"We have advised authorities of the incident and are assisting them with their investigations."

Rio said it was fully supporting the employees' family and work colleagues during the difficult time.

Police were called to the site at 12.30am WST on Monday following reports of a workplace incident.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
