Man dies after NSW car crash

A man, 74, has died in hospital a week after he was severely injured in a crash on the Hume Highway in southern NSW.

He was driving along the Hume Highway near Gunning on Tuesday last week when his car and another, which was travelling in the same direction, collided, police said.

The man's car flipped off the highway before eventually stopping on an embankment.

Emergency services freed the man, who was trapped in the upside down ute, before airlifting him to Canberra Hospital in a serious condition.

After a week in hospital the man died from his abdominal injuries.

The 25-year-old male driver of the other car and his 14-year-old boy passenger were taken to Canberra Hospital in a stable condition after the crash.

Police are preparing a report for the coroner.
